Painter, printmaker and writer born in Kosow, Poland in 1906. Marian Kratochwil studied in the studio of Stanislaw Batowski and read philosophy and history at Lvov University. After active service in World War 11 he painted in Scotland before moving to London where he became known for his views chronicling the life of the city. He also worked extensively in Spain. In 1961 he married the artist Kathleen Browne and shared a retrospective exhibition with her at the Polish Cultural Institute in 1994 where he showed works life and places on Poland’s pre war eastern borders. Collections: British Museum; Victoria and Albert Museum; Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art; Torun University, Poland and elsewhere.
