Alois Arnegger (Austrian School, 1879-1967)
Alois Arnegger was born in Vienna in 1879. He developed his skills while training at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under landscape artist Robert Russ (1867-1922) and historical artist August Eisenmenger (1830-1907). Arnegger established a reputation as a fine landscape artist, and was particularly well known for his Austrian snow scene paintings.
Although early in his career Arnegger primarily painted depictions of his native Austria, however, in the early 1920s he traveled to Italy and became enchanted with the coastal views along the Mediterranean. He painted vibrant views of Capri, San Remo, Naples, Castellammare and Lake Como, it is these colourful works, painted with skilful dexterity, for which he is best remembered today. He participated frequently in exhibitions at the well-known Kuenstlerhaus and is widely recognized today throughout the United States and Europe. His work is represented in both public and private collections throughout the world.
