Per Ekstrom (1844-1935) Swedish
Per Ekstrom was born on the island of Oland on the east coast of Sweden in 1844. A colourful and well-liked character he first exhibited in Stockholm in 1865. Keen to expand his artistic skills Ekstrom lived in France from 1876-1890 based in Paris he also visited Normandy and Barbizon, it is known that he also spent time in Holland. Painting En Plein Air in an impressionistic manner Ekstrom sought to capture the defining moments in a day or season when the light was at its most intense. Few artists have managed to capture the Scandinavian light with such distinction; Ekstrom's work now hangs in museums in Stockholm, Oslo and Gothenburg.
